A Followme (Follow Me) facility on your phone service enables the phone to ring at various numbers that you have chosen, either simultaneously or in sequence. For example, your office phone rings out after x rings, then your cell phone rings, and if you don't answer it, your home phone rings. The caller does not realize that this is happening. This has great privacy benefit, as you don't need to give out your cell or home number.

My followme service supplier is RingCentral, based in San Mateo, CA. What makes their offering better is that you get more than "just a phone number". It is also your fax number and cell phone number. You give out just one number to your contacts. I use my toll-free number mainly as an an answering service and I get all my messages as attachments to email.
