Definition
A virtual calling card is not a physical card but a feature of a toll-free number service (or a local number service) whereby you call that number, enter a password, then make a telephone call, which is billed to that number. For example, if you are in a hotel or at a friend's home and need to make an expensive call, you would ring this number to get the benefit of lower call charges.

My virtual calling card supplier is RingCentral Inc by way of a toll-free number. What makes their offering better is that you get more than "just a phone number". It is also your fax number and cell phone number. You give out just one number to your contacts. I use my toll-free number mainly as an an answering service and I get all my messages as attachments to email.
